Never think that helping one animal will not make a difference. For if you save one it will not change the world BUT the world will change for that one animal.

In 2009, four hundred cats and kittens were placed in homes with families where they were indoor kitties, and were allowed outdoors only under the careful supervision of their adoptive families.

Our assisted spay/neuter grant was renewed, and we helped 444 low-income owners spay and neuter their cats. We continued our feral spay/neuter program with another much appreciated grant We paid for 189 feral cats to be altered. Our cats and kittens available for adoption received two immunizations, internal and external parasite control, testing for leukemia, testing for fungus and were spayed or neutered.

We were blessed with 43 wonderful volunteers that helped us with cleaning, socializing maintenance, fund raising, bookkeeping and the yard outside our facility.   Our shelter volunteers were assisted by high school students who volunteered to get credit for some of their classes.  Some of our volunteers actually were here twenty hours per week cleaning and doing our never ending laundry.  Community Service youth fulfilled their sentences here and were helped with knowledge and care for their own pets.

We had our most challenging year ever, with the population in our shelter and our other buildings at 120 for over seven months and an average of 40 others that were in foster homes.  Our foster home parents had access to litter, food and medical care.

Without the wonderful individual donations and the one time estate gift, we certainly could not have been able to help the enormous amount of abandoned felines that we did.  It is our hope that we have a much quieter year in 2010.   The work load of caring for 120 cats and kittens and the cost of cat food alone was overwhelming.

Our community is no closer to having either a county or city shelter, so that we still have the only shelter located in our county.  It still is our dream to have another rescue group available to take care of a portion of the abandoned felines left at our shelter.  In the meantime while we wait for that to happen, our heartfelt gratitude to all of you that have helped our shelter succeed.
